Alfred Glendening was a Victorian landscape painter who exhibited from 1880 to 1905 (for example at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists). It is easy to confuse him with his son of the same name who painted in a similar style. Apparently the father lived in London and was a railway clerk before he took up painting as a profession. This picture is a typical example of his work.
