James Callow is an artist who is only
recorded as exhibiting one picture ("The East Scar and Bay, Whitby" at
the Royal Academy in 1860). He was possibly the brother of George D.
Callow, a landscape painter, who resided at the same address in Newman
Street, London. It is not known whether they were related to the more
well known artists John Callow and William Callow who were active in the
same century.
The work of James Callow seems to be
mainly coastal and marine scenes as in the above example.
